Good morning all.
I'm sitting at the desk in my dorm room as I write this, which is pushed against my window allowing me to stare into space instead of doing something more productive with my time.
I never noticed before what a beautiful view of campus I have from my room. I can see the Huron food court, the Weldon library, and the law and engineering buildings, all done in the gorgeous gothic architectural style of the mid-1800s. For the first time in months, the lawns and gardens lie free of snow. The sky is blue, the air is warm, and the feeling that anything is possible hangs in the air overhead. Maybe it's only the spring weather... but there's still something about this campus...
Looking at it, I realize that hundreds of thousands of people in the last hundred and fifty years have, in this very place, been able to turn their dreams into realities. For seventy of those years, someone else has sat looking out this very window I am looking out now, taking in the astounding Western campus and wondering what doors it will open for them. It almost makes me squirm with anticipation.
For me, this moment is representative of why I came to Western to study. Within the rustic building walls and garden gates there lies tradition, but perhaps more importantly there lies the feeling of opportunity.
Because of what I do today, anything can happen tomorrow.
PS I REALIZE I AM A DORK KTHX.
